The jury had earlier decided that Apple incorporated patented microchip technology into some iPhones and iPads without permission.
Apple said it would appeal.
The company declined to comment further.
The amount was less than the foundation had claimed. It had originally sought as much as $862m.
The sum was lower in part because the judge ruled that Apple had not wilfully infringed the patent.

MICROSOFT'S SURFACE BOOK WILL REDEFINE HOW PCs ARE MADE.

Microsoft’s Surface Book is the most exciting Windows laptop in years. Actually, aside from a few hot-rod gaming rigs, it may be the only exciting Windows laptop in years. That’s great news for people who’ve longed to long for a PC again. And it could be a nightmare for every other PC manufacturer.

If you missed the Surface Book announcement, you’ll want to get acquainted. It’s a 13.5-inch laptop with a killer display, maxed-out guts, a funky cool hinge, and a top half that detaches, like the saucer of the USS Enterprise, to become a thick, powerful tablet. Reattach the display face-up, and the Surface Book enters “draw mode,” which brings the full power of a discrete Nvidia GPU to bear on stylus-based sketches and similar applicationxs. It’s a beauty, it’s a beast, and at $1,500 it’s expensive but not ludicrously so.

COMPLETE LIST OF PHONES TO GET ANDROID 6 MASHMALLOW LEAKS... SAMSUNG, SONY AND LG.

HTC was quick to announce its Android 6.0 Marshmallow update plans first, and some info already appeared on LG and Motorola plans for the inevitable rollout, but now we have the motherload of leaks regarding which exact phones from various prime Android makers will be getting the s'mores.

The list has been circulating in the Chinese blogosphere for a while, and includes the who is who in the mobile industry, featuring Samsung, Sony, Xiaomi, Huawei and others. Obviously, virtually all of their high-end handsets will be receiving Android 6.0 first, with others to follow.

The second column shows which manufacturer devices will be getting the sweet Marshmallow in a second batch of updates, or which ones are still on the ropes. Interestingly enough, the new Xperia Z5 trio isn't listed here, though Sony already mentioned that it will be in line for the Marshmallow update, so no worries for now. As for when exactly will these phones be updated to Android 6.0 after Google releases the source code this month, that is anyone's guess, but if history is any indication, the first over-the-air prompts should be hitting some unlocked or Google Play editions before year's end.

APPLE'S NEW WATCH ADS PUT THE SPOTLIGHT ON HANDS-FREE USE

Smartwatches are supposed to perform tasks that smartphones find difficult, such as tracking your heart rate or handling mobile payments and navigation instructions for users who already have their hands full. Those are the scenarios that Apple has chosen to illustrate with a new series of Apple Watch promo videos. Smartwatches also have their downsides, however, including notifications that interrupt and distract from whatever else you are doing. Apple attempts to turn that into a positive in its Date ad above, but it just comes across as forced and contrived.
